Objective of Visit:
- To conduct pre-training for the Green Catalyst prior to the training on EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment).
- Introducing the team with one of the parameters of legal procedure for obtaining Environmental Clearance.
- Enhance knowledge of Public hearing procedure. They were already provided link of summary of EIA report and told to study it before attending the EPH.
- Acknowledging them with the actual scenario and condition of affected people as consequences of project establishment.
Outline of Public Hearing:
- The public hearing was scheduled on 07-12-2018
At 11:00 hrs at C.T. Village limit: Dahej, 125/p, 124/p village limit: Lakhigam, Taluka:
Vagra, Dist. Bharuch at the actual site of proposed project. - Public hearing was chaired by R. R. Vyas, Regional Officer and J. P. Asari, Additional District Collector and Additional District Magistrate.
- Shri R. R. Vyas, Regional officer, GPCB Bharuch started the public hearing with the brief introduction of EPH and work done by GPCB related to EPH.
- GPCB with the permission of Chairman of Public Hearing opened the forum for representation/ suggestions/ objections/ questions from the locally affected people.
- Presentation about the project was done by M/s. Adani Cementation Ltd.
- Around 180 people were present in the public hearing.
- Total 29 people took part in oral presentation at the public hearing. Out of which many were present with complaints and others had positive response towards ACL and their work done under CSR.
Observations by Green Catalyst:
- Green Catalysts observed the legal procedure and came to know about the problems the local people were suffering from.
- Many people came as a land-loser and complained on not receiving satisfactory responses to their problems.
- There were very few people who had thorough knowledge on EIA report previously made by ACL and were able to question the project proponent on actual environmental threatening issues.
- There were also those people who welcomed ACL project and appreciated the work previously done by them under CSR.
- The objective of the public hearing is to address concerns of affected people due to upcoming project, but we felt that there were many issues unsolved provoked due to preceding project
- Team members realized the necessity of awareness among villagers regarding the impacts on their health and the environment , so that they can raise objections which can further be helpful for their own healthy lives.
Conclusion:
It was an expediential training; team members had a bag full of experiences with clarity in the concept of EPH and its procedure as well as more curiosity of enhancing their knowledge on EIA and its reviewing methodology.

A 2-day training program was organized as a part of training and field trip of Green Catalyst to Shamlaji,Sabarkantha on 23-24 June 2018. A group of 20 Green Catalyst participated in the training at Shamlaji.On the first day of trip, Green Catalyst were taken for a visit to E-coli Waste Management Pvt. Ltd, aGPCB authorized E-waste recycler and Bio-medical waste management company situated inSabarkantha. Green Catalyst had been spreading awareness about E-waste since last year so it was agood exposure for them to understand in-depth about how E-waste is recycled. On the same day GreenCatalysts were also taken to visit the nearby checkdam to understand the importance of waterconservation for farmer and villagers. After the visit, Green Catalyst enjoyed some cultural activities andthen they were given a task by Mr. Mahesh Parmar, Paryavaran Mitra to plan for coming year.On the second day, training was organized. The aim of the training was to enhance an understanding onRTI (right to information) and PIL (Public Interest Litigation) and how they can be used in protectingenvironment. The session was taken by Mr. Mahesh Pandya from Paryavaran Mitra who has more than20 years of experience in the field of advocacy. After this session, Green Catalyst made theirpresentation about their next year’s plan and ways to strengthen the platform. They introduce the coreteam which will take care of Green Catalyst program in the coming year and appointed various roles tomembers. They also planned for new addition to program named as “Adopt a School Program”. Lastlythey planned for Youth Mega Forum that was to be held in July.

Green Catalyst, Viral and Devang had a meeting with Mr. Martin Born (Gala-Freudenberg House Cleaning Products) and Mr. George Graf (Regional head of Freudenberg, Germany) in which ongoing activities, long-term goals, and future prospects of Green Catalyst were discussed. It was really an insightful meeting with Mr. Martin and Mr. George as they came to know their interest in environment and our work.
The seminar started with a warm welcome to all the delegates and brief information about CSR activities of Freudenberg and Terre Des Hommes across the world. Mr. Martin Born gave a brief introduction about activities of Paryavaran Mitra and Green Catalyst. A detailed presentation about Green Catalyst activities was given by Green Catalyst, Viral and Devang. They presented the aims and objectives of Green Catalyst, ongoing activities, and future plan of Green Catalyst team. Also impact of activities carried out by Green Catalyst in last year was presented.
A panel discussion was conducted on CSR Funding. A one to one interaction with all the delegates was carried out. It was a great opportunity for Green Catalysts to interact with a number of eminent personalities working in Social Service Sector. During this session many ideas were discussed to make Green Catalyst activities more impactful. The Green Catalysts also came to know about different NGOs working for different issues across the India which helped them widen their vision. Conclusion:
It was very informative and an insightful experience for Green Catalyst to be a part of this seminar. Also it increased the capacity building of Green Catalyst in many ways.
